I have a custom bass that has some quirks. It’s been made into a string through body with a Schaller bridge. I’ve just restrung it for the first time since I got it and realized that the low B must have a tapered core to work properly or else the string won’t sit in the saddle…and then it can’t be intonated. So… is there a string that sounds similar to DR Sunbeams that comes with a tapered low B? Preferably looking for a 45-130 set (this is a 32” scale bass). The bass came with D’Addario XLs but I prefer Sunbeams. Thanks so much.

To check back in, I ended up trying the regular Dunlop nickel strings with a tapered 130 B, and they sound amazing! The do die out pretty quickly, but they still sound fantastic. I may try the super brights next time, but am loving the regular nickels right now. They sure do love a P pickup!

I was wrong about the Dunlop nickel strings. Died too quickly...like basically right away. I just put MTD nickel strings with an exposed core low B....terrible strings. Super mid-forward, super dark sounding, and the D string was dead out of the package. Still searching for the right strings to make this medium scale 5 string work properly. I think I just need to keep low tension flats on this bass (sounds amazing) and get a different 5 string for rounds.
