Good morning all!
I'm a new bass player and have searched the TB forum but found no info regarding this issue. I'm receiving a new SRA305 today and have DR strings that are barley used from my old bass. Can I restring the new bass using the old strings without issue? Thanks in advance and have a great day! Take care, Jeff

If the scale length is the same, and the tuner layout on the headstock is the same or similar, you can swap them.

I swap different sets of strings around between basses all the time dependent on gigs, and genre's played.

Ussually yes. If is as stflbn said. However you can do a couple things to cause fewer chance of issues. If the basses have quick top load string release so that you dont have to string the string thru a hole in bridges rear is easiest thing. Otherwise, you need to be careful to slowly and gently uncurl the part of string that was around the tuning peg somewhat. So that it can then be carefully guided thru that hole in back of the bridge for bridges that arent easy top release.

For getting the tuning peg part of string back on new tuning peg. First put the end of string in the tuning peg with curled wraps loosely around tuning peg. Make sure the wraps are correctly underneath each other as you gently pull string semi tight. The start turning tuning peg rewrapping rest of string end around it, Snugging each wrap up against the previous one as you go.

If both basses have easy top load for strings. Simply loosen each string well enough to release fro peghead, lift out ball end from bridge. Then reattach string at tuning peg, Pull string semi taught, drop ball end into bridge and finish winding tuning peg to pitch.

The main thing you need to worry about is if the "witness point" in the string is further up than required on the new bass they are going to be strung on...

This could cause a bend in the string just past the saddles in some cases.
