1) Can i put the heaviest four strings of a five string set onto a four string guitar?

Yes, people do it all the time. Then, you can tune your bass B-E-A-D.

However, you will need to widen the nut to accomodate the fact that your strings are wider than regular strings for a 4-string bass.

If you have never widen a nut before, I strongly suggest that you pay a qualified tech to do it for you.

Depending on the size of the B string and the type of bridge, you may have a hard time pulling it through. Depending on the instrument, .120 may be the largest "B" string you can put on.
