String winding Over bridge

I am setting up a jazz bass and only have a G string from an upright bass. the winding goes over the bridge is there anything bad by doing this per se?

I will eventually get a new string but for the time being this is the only string I have..

I do like the sound of this one string ... Maybe I am on to something

The winding can kill the tone if its on the saddle. In your case it sounds like that isn't a problem. Go man, go.
