How is loading thru-bridge un-easy (for lack of a better term) on the finish? No sarcasm there, I am genuinely curious as to what you mean...
The ball ends always end up scraping the back of the bass if you lose concentration for half a second.
I don't really care so much about going thru-body or thru-bridge sonically, but the bridge on my 09 AmStd Precision rattles if I go thru-bridge so I go thru-body. I use XL's but I have strung it with regular long scale Chromes and they go on no problem.

If you aren't careful the string will act like a cheese grater on your finish. Happened the first time I strung up my Mia p. I strictly go thru the body. Not because of that, but that didn't hurt.
Jimmy - You sure it's the bridge not the ferules in the body rattling? In my Am Std those babys rattle like a rattly thing if they're not held tight by thru-body stringing...
+ to watching out for loose ferrules (on am std basses and teles); if they seem at all loose, go ahead and push them out, smear a good amount of wood glue on them, stuff 'em back in, and immediately string it up through the body to clamp them in place while the glue dries.
(use a damp paper towel to wipe off excess wood glue after it's strung up.)
