My Godin allows for it and i string thru the body. Its my slapping bass and it helps give more sustain.

Stringing thru body or not

My only string through experiance is with my guitar, and I hate it. The top three strings (D, B, E) have a tendency to get wedged in the hole, and it makes it a pain to remove them. I do like the sound of string through basses, however.
The benefits I've experienced w/string thru body is that (on some basses!) the sharper angle does produce a better attack and truer tone as well as deadening any bridge noise/vibration. Although, no noticeable tension difference.
both of my basses are thu-bridge. i dont see any reason not to do it that way, and as for the issue of small bridge scews, man those things are long, and there are like 8 of them on my '92 i dont think thats a problem.
IMHO: Even if there is a difference, there isnt a 'better one' its about the kind of sound u want as an artist, be unique! set your bass up how you like it, lets stop with comparisons and get back to whats really important - the music!
