strings for a new fender

hi guys. im getting a fender 62' p bass and they come with the Fender® USA Super Bass 7250ML, NPS, (.045, .065, .080, .100 Gauges) strings and i just want to know if they are pretty good or should i get new strings. if so, which strings should i get? :bassist:

I would recommend Thomastik-Infled Jazz Flats if you want flatwound strings and DR Sunbeams if you want rounds, but that's just me. I personally hate Fender (D'Addario) strings but am stuck with them on mine till I can grab a set of DR's. What is it that you want tonally out of a string?

I loved the ones that came on my Fender, played them till they were completely dead before switching to flats.

If you want to get away from rounds but not go all the way to flats I'd suggest a set of GHS Pressure Wounds. They're a great sounding and playing string. Very versatile tonally and they have a nice consistent tension across the set. I play them on my Jazz but they'd work just was well on a PBass and give you a little less thump and more mid punch than flats.

If you're sticking with rounds the D'Ads that come stock with the bass aren't horrible but they won't last long if you're playing much. When you change them look at one of the DR sets and find the one with the brightness level and feel you're most comfortable with.

Thanks. :). i am probs going to stick to the round wounds, but those pressure wounds sound like a nearly perfect replacement if i change my mind. :smug:

hahaha. its my first bass. im hoping it doesnt get mistreated by anone who plays it except me.

Those Fender strings are really a good match for the instrument. I have been through various DR (lo-riders, sun beams), Pedulla nickel wound, Sadowsky SS and Bright Nickel black labels, and something else I have forgotten. The Fenders 100-45 set on my '08 road worn Jazz (a very very resonant instrument) win!
