Strings for metal bass

I know a lot of metal guys like the ProSteels. I personally like nickel/steels because they have more a little mid content, so I'd recommend Circle Ks.
My favorite strings for metal (with a B string) are Circle K Strings (0.142) and Daddario (0.145).
Usually something with a tapered B thats over a .135 won't be floppy. A lot of guys say a 35" scale makes it so its not floppy. I disagree because I have 2 six strings that are 34" scale that have a tight low B (dropped to A it is still are not floppy). Gauge is crucial for a good articulate low tuned string.
Using standard D'addario XL's that were .135 on the low B were a really tight fit at the bridge as I got to the end, would the tapered end strings solve this?
I know what gear to use really well and am a metal player. Kind of a broad, narrow minded comment. Plenty of metal players out there that really know a lot about gear.
Im looking at circle K .142's, is there anything that comes close or better for less money? 40 bucks a set is kinda expensive IMO but I'll use it for recording my bands album if its the best I'll find
