My first build is finally coming into fruition and I couldn't be more excited. I realized I've decided on everything for the bass except for the strings. I thought I'd come here and ask you guys to suggest some strings for the newest addition to my stable. My least favorite so far would have to be Flex Steels by D-Addario (just my taste)... but I am open to try anything else. Mostly looking for rounds, but hey...

I play pretty much anything and everything. Mostly Rock, Funk and solo arrangements.
The pickups in the new bass will be Aguilar DCB's, if that helps any. I'll add a poll after I get some suggestions

Suggest away!

Dunlop super brights. Steel or nickel. Whatever you prefer. They're poorly named because they're not super bright. They're not dull, but hardly super bright. They're clear and crisp and supple feeling. On the smooth side for rounds.

Dunlop Super Brights for the win!

Yup.

I hate to keep harping on how great these strings are, but they are!

P.S. Where's Jimmy M.? :woot:

I voted for the EB Slinkys. Not because they're necessarily the best, most wonderful strings ever - but, because they're not. Personally, on any new 34" scale bass, I always put Slinkys on it to start with - especially if it has D'Addarios on it (long story). For me, they're a perfect median starting point; something to tell me which way to go, if I'm looking for a particular sound. And, sometimes I'm not; I just want a generic (to me) bass sound. In that case, then the Slinkys suit me just fine. They sound and feel OK; they last a reasonably long time (for me, anyway); they certainly don't cost a lot; and, every music store in town always has them. So, I say start with the Slinkys; they might be what you want (and lots of people do like them). If not, fine; you won't be out -of-pocket for much; and you can go from there, wherever your ears tell you to...:)

I love the Roto 66 sound for rock and funk. There is a variety of gauges from ultra-light to medium, but only two choices in the nickel-plated variety. A lot of folks claim short string life with Rotos, so YMMV. For me they still sound good and growly after being played in, but I don't always play bass daily and my gig schedule is... Open...

I think your decision boils down to steel vs. nickel, and what gauge you like to slap at. Then find the brand that matches your preferred gauge and composition.

I'm also considering a Fodera Victor Wooten set, nickel rounds, light gauge, you may want to consider, didnt look to expensive.
