My bass is the very short scale Ibanez Mikro (~"29 neck!), equipped with graphtech piezo system, mags out.
I live in India and it's humid here, and rust gathers up quickly
I have 2 problems:
A. a dying E string (different varieties tested), but sometime almost out of the box.
This becomes more obvious on piezo sound compared to the mags that I pulled out.
I can relate this to a combination of humidity but perhaps the twist around the small diameter tuners of this bass separates the core from winding and has some negative effect. Money is low at the moment so I want to have a work around with strings rather than look into tuner replacement.
B. Unfocused tuning (it's hard to determine the real pitch of the note being played in different parts of the neck). This is also much more evident with piezos than mags.
I have noticed that the Mikro's neck bends very easy by hand (if I put my knee on the back of the neck, then pull it down), making a tremolo effect- therefor I suspect that as the string vibrates, the neck bends back and forth, creating an unstable frequency.
I am looking for the following qualities from a string:
1. A tension that will help the latter problem- I don't know if that's low or high tension?
2. Long lasting and rust dependent (which material is best?)
3. Healthy bass but not a strong sub bass- the Graphtech preamp gives a strong sub response, it can hurt loudspeakers and easily overpower a room with mud. If you have never experienced a good piezo bass please don't comment on this request because it's below what magnetic pups allows you to hear and evaluate.
4. Good high frequency zing and forward midrange to cut through the mix- not looking for scooped midrange here.
5. Easy on the hands- my technique is quite subtle, I don't like rough strings, and I like a good left hand horizontal flow.
6. 90-95 gauge- not too thin for short scale yet not too thick to fit into the small tuner. Correct me if I'm wrong about it.
7. Will flexible strings be the right choice, to reduce the possible damage from the tuner?
I was thinking about the TI Acousticore, yet these are very expensive for rupee currency.. Yet I don't deny them if opinions will be favorable, according to my situation.
