Strings with brightest sound

Markley Blue Steels, D'Addario Pro Steels, or La Bella Hard Rockin's Steels have imo been the brightest strings I have played.

Basically, if it has "steels" in the name, it's bright. lol

Hi Beams, imo, aren't super bright. They have a polite brightness that isn't really in your face. Wonderful strings.

Rotosound steels aren't super bright, but they do have a grindy hi-mids thing that no other string has. They do however last the longest of the steel strings, ime.

GHS Contact Core Super Steels. They will bring the BOOM! If you aren't pretty handy with your amp's EQ, they will also drive a half-inch ship auger in your ear with a 4 lb hand sledge.

My humble little rig has often been described as either the "Crispest" or "Clearest" bass setup folks have heard and those strings are a big part of it. Unfortunately, they are also fairly unforgiving of my many mistakes and short-comings as a bassist....

I'm using Rotosound Swing '66, D'Addario ProSteels and La Bella Hard Rockin' Steels at the moment. From this experience (strings applied about the same time roughly 2 months ago) I've found the La Bella strings to be the least bright, even from the beginning, but they hold the initial tone for a long time. They are the heaviest sounding of the three. The Roto's have the brightest initial tone which mellows quickly to a good British grind (I suppose...) and the ProSteels lie somewhere in between. They sound well balanced with an amazing tone. Two months in, the three sound very similar.

That's what happened this time, anyway!
