strings won't fit aaaargh!!!

i don't get the whole "fill in the nut" advice...the strings doesn't fit in, not floats around in

Believe it was file the nut, not fill it in, which is something you might do after filing and then reverting back to a smaller gauge. Clear as mud? Lol.

Nope. You can adjust to compensate for the effects of the higher tension from the strings, but not adjust the actual tension.

I see where you're coming from. I overlooked OP's requirement of the same tension.

FWIW, this is pretty standard practice. You can always try to sell them on here, but I have no idea if you will find a market.

I have a similar problem but in reverse. I had a set of medium gauge strings (50-120) and decided to try a light gauge set (0.45-.100) and now my E string keeps sliding out of the nut.

OT: since when 50-120 is medium gauge???
'in my time' 35-95 was light, 40-100 was medium and 45-105 was heavy.
unless +36" scale instrument is used, really do not see a reason for using such heavy strings.

Get a business card or sheet of paper and tear off a tiny piece and put it in the nut... Here is an image of a sloppy one I have on one of my basses, but I like it like this that way if it slips I can pull it into place...
