I can see your point to am extent. But let's look at the same subject with a more familiar topic to this crowd.
I would almost guarantee you a similar poll result if you asked the same question about Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten, or Jaco.
No doubt all three are insanely talented. But many if the comments by those who voted "Indifferent" would be similar to the ones here.
"Super talented but he way over plays."
"The guy has/had chops for sure, but his tone makes me want to barf."
"His playing was always incredible but I never liked the music he played so I voted indifferent."
I would most definitely be in that same category with Jaco. His playing and career took finger style bass to the next level. He was a rare.....possibly even one of a kind....talent. Young, good looking guy with a mischievous smile. I can't help but admire his work, but I didn't enjoy the music. And his tone to me was just horrible. (When I recently had a bass built I chose a Seymour Duncan NYC5 .....sort if a humbucker.... for the bridge pickup for one reason only....to avoid having a J pickup so it didn't sound like Jaco when solo.) Also, it's sad that his career and life ended in such a wasteful way. I literally feel exactly the same about Whitney and Jaco. Both rare talents. Both able to do things with their instruments many only dream of. Both sadly made horrible choices. Both of them have never been in my music collection.
I think you asked the question in a vague way but meant it in a specific way. You were kind of asking specifically about talent. But we answered based on the whole package.
