Structuring my self education.....

I just figured I'd share this. I just got Berklee Jazz Theory and Composition book since I know my actual writing is lacking. I kind of half assed studied Jazz in College but have decided to really devote the time and effort to study on my own. For example I realize that I'm good with grooves and chord progressions but my melodies suck.

I got the book last night, downloaded the audio examples and created a 25 song play list in Spotify based on the suggested listening examples. Since I'm much more of a fusion guy this is quite a cool beginning.

One of my goals is to get to the point where I'm writing all the parts and not having it sound like it was "Written by a bass player."

I was just watching a video not long ago where David Gilmour was saying he often "writes" his lead guitar lines by singing them first, and then figuring out how to play them.
