Stu Hamm Urge on eBay

I'm somewhat interested in a Stu Hamm Fender Urge, but I find the neck heel damage on this one to be a major deterrent to buying. It just seems not well cared for overall.

These are my favorite Fender basses. The one is a bit worse for wear, but prices on these have been climbing. Based on what I have seen, it could sell for $500 or even a bit more. If the electronics are okay, it might be worth considering if you dont mind the possibility of some repair dollars.

If you find one in good shape, it will likely be at least double his starting bid. These have been creeping up in price on the used market, and can sell for what they went for when new.

I have a borrowed one, so it is free to me :) The owner bought it for next to nothing several years ago.

Edit: I am looking at this on my phone. What neck heel damage am I not seeing?

@selowitch: I agree that if you suspect damage, the pictures provided aren't going to clear up any questions. Still, now that I can see the pictures on a larger screen, looking at the picture you posted and the one below, I don't see anything about the neck or pocket that really concern me. I can't tell if that is pocket gap or if the neck is just not sitting in the pocket at the right angle.

If you aren't comfortable, though, this is a 100% pass-and-move-on situation. Since it obviously hasn't been cared for over its life, there is no telling what problems could be waiting to be discovered. As basses go, this has a lot going on - there is plenty of room for electronics problems, neck issues, etc. None of this is going to show up in a photo.

I'm pretty sure the neck plate used to be black. The one I have is silver, too. It is the worst black chrome plating I've ever seen. I remember seeing it coming off in the store; it seems like I polished my third Urge's plate from black to silver just by rubbing it with guitar polish and a wash cloth.
