Double Bass Studio Mic Screen on stage?

I wonder if a mic screen like Invalid Link Removed, usualy used in studios or to improve the room acoustics, would work on stage to reduce feedback etc … has anybody tried this?

You would be blocking the audience's view of your face, which would kill your ability to effectively express the words.

A typical SM58-type mic has what's called a cardioid polar pattern. That means it rejects anything coming into it from the back. That anti-reflection screen would do you absolutely no good.

And, it wouldn't help reduce feedback because feedback enters from the front of the mic because it's, as I said, a cardioid polar pattern.

Plus it would block your face.

I was not thinking of a vocal miking situation, but of a double bass. So it would probably not hide my face, but my knees.

It would be interesting to try, but if feedback is more the issue than room sound, you might be better off with a simple folding plexiglass shield which can be home made for cheap.

For Pat Matheny's Song X tour Charlie Hayden was totally enclosed in a plexiglass structure. It worked very well.

Ah, that's different. A condenser mic is so sensitive that it's darn near impossible to put them into a monitor without them feeding back. Even in a cardioid pattern. Not sure that thing would help. But I don't know for sure.

It would help with bleed from other sources, and possibly with feedback from monitors. But it won't improve the sound itself.

Right, he's used that more recently as well. What I heard is that Haden has serious hearing issues and the enclosure is more about keeping the stage volume very low for him.

I figure a lower version, maybe a few inches higher than the mic sweet spot above the right F hole, would work well for isolation and feedback prevention and wouldn't be too distracting for the audience. I've seen 3 sided hinged shields like this built for guitar amps, and larger ones for drums, maybe a prefab one could be bought.

The linked product looks cool, I'm just not sure how road worthy it is, and it's relatively expensive and not that large. You could probably build a plexi version for maybe $30 and make it large enough that you could use an omni mic on the bass if you wanted, or a figure 8 ribbon straight on.

not sure i understand correctly--how are you connecting all of this? you have a mic pointing at your db; i can see how the filter may protect it from drum-bleed.
small room, small stage?
