Studio needs a quality Fender - Gecommendations?

I'd say browse the classifieds here and your local Craigslist. You can find Made in Mexico (MIM) fenders for anywhere from 250-450ish depending on condition.

+1

I have a couple of 2010 MIM Standard Precisions. I bought them for the road this summer, but they set up and played so well I ended up taking good care of them and rotating them into frequent player status. And yes, they have seen the inside of a studio a few times, and they record very well.

I've got a line on a Fender Dirnt P Bass and read the big thread here. Unfortunately it's long distance, but only $350 + shipping. People seem to agree on the sound being great, which is the main consideration in the studio! Any thoughts?

BTW, I so appreciate everyone's input. I don't know if URL's are permitted here, but if you'd like to see my studio it's @

Thanks again!

I'm thinking I'm going to get this Dirnt P Bass with flats. The pickup is a 59 custom shop job folks seem to like. I''m tempted to get the Thomastiks, or is that overspending for nothing?

that dirnt for $350 is a great choice imho - that 59 PU sounds great and will love a set of flats - Thomastiks may be a bit of a niche string if you plan on multiple players using it...but they are well loved by those that like them. Maybe a more middle of the road flat like a GHS precision flat or an EBMM group II would save you some $$ and present a more typical flat feel/sound (imho etc)

thanks pudgychef, I'm feeling pretty good about this! I'm guessing this is closer in quality to other asian axes like the geddy?

it is made in mexico and (imho) is on par with the Classic Series basses which are also MIM and are great (again imho)

I would say if it isn't on par with the MIJ stuff it is awfully close. The classic 60s J and 50s P are awfully nice and the Dirnt is a rock....I think the Reggie Hamilton standard is also MIM and gets a ton of love.

Can't think of a single drawback to getting that bass at that $$ - congrats man :)

Again, thanks! I'm going to try to get them to install and set up new strings, and ensure in the process that the problem some of these necks have with truss rod adjustments maxing out is not present on this bass. This one is black with black pickguard, which I've never seen before... ;)

Guys, you've all been great, thanks again.

It doesn't come up terribly often that bass players want to use our instrument, but it does come up a lot that I need to lay down some bass on either client tracks or in-house productions, so I get to exercise my own taste in the matter! :)

We do keep nothing but really quality audio and musical equipment here. The only piece of crap in the whole building is a Behringer headphone amp, which doesn't affect results ;)
