Very interesting thread... Some time ago I used to play a StingRay5 a lot and it wasn't the least bit heavy. I did not however, like to record with it. These days I use my passive US Lakland JO or P Bass w/flats.

I have to admit - and this might be partly due to the TV-mix - I became aware not only of how great Chic was/is as a live band, but how incredible Nile Rodgers is as a guitarist. Reminds me of a Patti Smith concert I visited, where her son was playing a Sadowsky. I get this sound, but to me it kind of sounds outside the music. There's that noble low end and this noble high end, but it sounds as if the bass isn't an integral part of the music, it feels as if the bass player is in another room. Even if he is as awesome as Edwards.
BTW I'm so happy that Nile Rodgers has such a success with Daft Punk.
