Hi Justin

I´m curious about the TLA C1 that i see in the pictures. I´ve noticed that this unit was in your rack in your studio early incarnation...
I´ve used this unit in a few occasions in the past and seems to me a decent/good compressor but not in the league of your other machines like LA2A, 1176, Distressors...
It´s a dumb question, i know, but it attracted my attention. Do you use this compressor for something in special? I´m missing anything??:ninja:

Silly question about the space for you, JMJ. I remember a time when a project would make it's way through various studios in various stages of production: one for tracking, another for mixing, and then a specialized mastering facility.

I can't profess to grasp the somewhat dark arts of mastering. But how are you using your studio? Is it primarily for tracking, or are you doing a good deal of the mixing there, too?

In my experience, mastering really isn't a scary dark art. It is basically EQ and dynamics processing very similar to what you'd do to an individual track when mixing. With my clients, if they don't have a huge working budget (which some don't since I work with any variety of clients to try to keep my room as busy as possible) I can do some mastering right in Pro Tools using various cool plugins as I'm mixing, but... The real secret to mastering is that the guys that only do mastering every day are SCARY GOOD at what they do.

I'd always prefer to do the best mix that I can do and then let my regular mastering guy do his magic. He knows his gear well, and knows what want to hear. Definitely a good thing!!
