If you peruse Craiglist once a week or so as I do you'll start to notice basses or amps that sit for months on end, maybe years. Usually those are high priced items in the thousands. This post amuses me because it's a $15 bridge. It says it was posted 5 months ago but I swear I've seen it listed for a few years now. Ol' Mr. Doug just keeps renewing the listing. One day it will sell, one day.

It probably does put off people, but it’s the only way I will even consider a Craigslist deal. If I can talk to them for a few minutes I can get a pretty decent read on if they are a psycho or not.

There’s someone on my local Craigslist that has had a cheap little guitar amp for sale for at least 5 years that I know of. The amp is a “First act” which is similar to the ones you see sold with the $129 beginners bundles on amazon. A couple of years ago the seller dropped the price from $100 to $85!

I visit Craigslist at least once a week, sometimes more, and have never been on there when that amp was not on the first page.

I have had a set of Fender Noiseless 5-string Jazz pickups listed on both CL and Marketplace for over 2 years that finally sold two weeks ago.

My issue is that I will only accept a cash transaction and I will not ship them because I have major trust issues and know people that have gotten burned doing the whole shipping thing. Did I mention that I have trust issues?

I always price my stuff fairly and generally will not accept offers when the price is already below what the actual value of the items are. If they won't pay me what it's worth, it will sit there until someone will. 🤷‍♂️

yeah it sits due to being a "part of a part". But as a seller, once you list something, it can sit effortlessly 'forever' till a buyer needs/finds it.

personally, I only see it being sold if someone with gold hardware needs a bridge (replacement), but thats a slim order for sure.

Same here on Louisville CL. A lady in Nabb Indiana has a couple of small practice amps listed going on 5-6 years.

As far as selling gear, CL is my go to. I've had great luck selling gear on it and low ballers are rare because I state in the ad "price is firm". I also remind the buyer of that when they call about it.

Never had a buyer leave without buying the item.

There’s a used guitar on Reverb, ~$10k-30k, on any given week, that’s been on there a very, very long time. I wrote to the seller and asked why the price is multiple times higher than all the other similar models. He responded that I should “mind my own business.”
Ok, my conclusion is that the seller, probably a ‘he’ has been going through a nasty divorce and is being forced, for any number of reasons, to sell this guitar.
Conjecture on my part, but you never know…

There was a guy selling a Jon Butcher Axis T shirt on Boston area craigslist “musical instruments for sale” section for over a decade. It’s finally gone.

I feel like some of these long term for sale items happen over a pride challenge… somebody said “ha! nobody will ever buy that”… “oh yeah, we’ll just see about that!”

You don't have trust issues,you're just wise. Cash, in-person, no shipping is the only reasonable way to do a Craigslist or Marketplace transaction
