Sub $150 New Basses Poll / Super Cheap Junk

Yep. I practice at my computer with a Pandora and the chick was standing on the keyboard. It got to the edge and jumped right on to the neck. Stayed there for an entire song. The vibration of the E string made the bird uncomfortable so it somehow stepped off and just grabbed the neck. My wife took that with her LG G3.
That must be what mine is then, I got my Dean used in 2003 and it appeared to have some age on it at that time so it must be a 90s model.
I own a bronco but I got mine used with a new guard, gotoh knock off bridge and it had been routed for full size P pickups and replaced with some GFS pickups. Thus I cant speak on the terms of really any electronics or body hardware but the neck on mine is really solid. It feels super nice and the frets are well done. That said the tuners are pretty crappy and I imagine the stock hardware I never saw was pretty bad. Squier raised all the prices in there line 2 times without raising the Broncos price, Im guessing for a reason not good.
Edit-I saw your looking at SS jaguars, those are a good buy. Without modding I gigged mine and the silver is very nice. I had both silver and red.

Long story short.., Ginny actually got 2 basses for the price of one. (so this in fact is super cheap!) The Bronco developed a problem (no electronic connection) so they took it to Guitar Center (where they bought it) and instead of fixing it - they gave her $200 back on her cc and told he to keep the Bronco! It was shipped to me and I easily fixed it. (a loose jack spun and broke the wire connection) I then lead her to a new (black) Squier Jag SS (on-line) which was ordered for $200 shipped and now she has 2 cool basses! (it's the other one propped against the cabinet in the pic) I strung the Jag w/flats (the other has rounds) and set it up for her - again, a really playable bass regardless of price. She has an Acoustic B10 (bought at GC when she got the bass - a package deal I seem to recall) which is a great little amp. I have the discontinued B20 model which I use in my office but have also used on small coffee-house gigs.
Agreed. Yamaha stuff is not always the coolest, but it's always good and musical.
I got a B stock SX Ursa 1 for $80. I added good strings and a Q-filter midrange cut and it's a delightful bass.

I suggested the Rogue because I have a Rogue 5-string (LX405 Pro II), made in Korea. Looks like the Pro III's are made in China. It's a bit above your price though at $179. Looks like the 4 string version, Rogue LX400 Pro III sells for $179 too. I ordered the 405 because the group I was in was doing some songs where I really needed a 5-string and I was just drop-tuning the E string on my Jazz bass. A friend of mine had a couple of different Rogue basses including their violin bass and said they were surprisingly good for the $$, so I ordered one.
So, got it and was surprised at the quality of fit and finish on it and the nice neck. Playing a Jazz Bass forever, I like the old Jazz-style neck and don't like telephone-pole necks (P-bass type). This one has a nice thin neck (skinny C-type, not thick D-type) and it plays well. I replaced the strings on it and fine-tuned the set-up just a little bit and it was good to go. It has a 6-bolt neck, 24-frets, a single-coil neck pickup and a Music Man-type soap bar humbucker bridge pickup. Volume switch has push-pull active/passive selector so you can keep playing if your battery dies. Has a nice "belly" contour on the top-back of the bass but no arm contour on the front. That lack of contour on the front is the only thing I don't care for. Honestly hasn't really caused any comfort problems while playing, but I'm used to having that on my Jazz Bass so I noticed.
And, cosmetics were good. Has a basswood body so it's much lighter than my jazz and has a quilted maple top so it looks good too. Mine is the "Sunset Burst". Sound is good too with LOTS of sonic options. I do prefer my Jazz Bass though, so I just use the Rogue for the songs where I need a 5-string. So I haven't used the one that you have listed, but the one I have I thought was a great value for the $$. Here's a link to the 4-string version at MF:

I think the Sunset Burst is much better looking than the Transparent Black, so be sure to look at that on their "choose style" drop down box.

I'd borrow $10 more and Link Removed. It's a 5-piece neck-thru ash-bodied 5 string with HH pickups.
I got a green one and it's awesome. Came with good strings and a decent set-up. Fret job was great.

I don't think I'll ever not answer SX for a sub $150 bass. I haven't tried the Yamaha, but I hear decent things.
I would totally agree. Yammy is where i would spend my money!

YES! Same thing here. Actually cut the inside of my thumb on the sharp fret edges....
I can't stress enough how much better you'd be buying used bass. Since low end used bass easily lose 1/2 their value once purchased you could buy a slightly used $300 bass for $150. At $300 retail quality is much higher than at the $150 retail... If buying used bothers you consider that once you walk out of the store with a new bass in hand It turns into a used bass.
I hear good things about SX basses. I saw one in the flesh and it looked like a nicely finished P bass.never played one though
find a bronco used for under 100 (under 80 is possible) then hack it up, bridge, pickups, electronics and strings. Out of the box probably the SX. wait on a b stock if you can.
