Subtle or over the top?

ok, for the sake of this thread,... can seacouch and markolson stop replying to each other?
if you hate each other so much of agreeing to disagree to make pages worth of it, all its doing is de railing the thread...

I'll answer the thread worthy section,...

I define subtle as most modulation / overdrive / compressor on low - medium settings,... subtle wah id put in too

a subtle distortion / fuzz? be hard to know if one such thing existed,... by definition theyre usually pretty high gain and tone changing,...

to me over the top is anything extreme,... gnarled up fuzz/distortion, extreme modulation etc,...

then of course you hit the 'extremely over the top that may be annoying to others but you love it'... I place my subdecay nosebox in this category,... I love its wall of sound that barely ever fades but when it does it gates up like broken static, I love its laser beam sounds, and I love its shrieking,... unfortunately noone else in the band likes it as all it does is create noise to them,... but to me,... its BEAUTIFUL noise!!! I've lost hours messing with it at home with headphones on ;)

I like fairly ordinary modulation effects to be very thick and lush. For example, I like my phaser and chorus to be quick thick and lush, but still analog warm and organic. The worst for me is over the top effects that sound too fake. I like overdrive to be subtle because the music I play isn't very heavy. The other effects I use, octaver and envelope filter, I like to be really warm and thick. As long as it's ordinary and analog warm, I like it warm and thick. I find no use for effects like ring modulators in the music I play.
