OK, we purchased 2 Sony floor speakers to replace the 2 blown floor speakers that came with this older component. Got a good deal on those so we get caught up in the moment and purchase a yamaha powered subwoofer. Get home and realize the back of our older Sony system has for lack of a better term, split wires going left & right from back of tuner to left/right hookups into the new floor speakers. Sub came with single rca input but we have no rca input at back of tuner or other component to run the rca wire to. Is there something we can do to use the split wire setup from the components mid-speaker send, out to the new powered woofer rca input. Otherwise, returning the sub tomorrow and just living with the new floor cabs and the existing small left/center/right surround speakers. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Does the sub not have speaker wire inputs/outputs on the back? If not, and your receiver doesnt have a sub out with a single rca, then youre not going to be able to hook it up. Take it back and look for a sub that has the speaker wire hookups on the back and get that. You can run the left and right channel speaker wires from you receiver to the sub, then to the two front speakers to get the sub its signal.

but the new powered sub only has a single rca input in back with a on/off button and volume knob. Our tuner has rca in/out to hookup the tape/CD/etc but all the speakers are left/right two sided wires. We went with this sub so as not to buy a seperate amp and sub. I think all the other powered subs had only single rca inputs as well. Best Buy has that sound room where the subs rock the room and so of course the 2 floor speakers sounded thin alone, so we added the sub hoping we did have a rca out on our home stereo, we dont. But now the 2 floor cabs we bought, 8" kevlar cones w/mid & tweeters, ported cabs are sounding kinda nice in our sunroom with the other surround speakers, not bad bass when you crank it abit. So we'll return the sub and save $100 bucks, cool. Of course I am a bassist and I likes the bottom in my music. So I may just go out and look for a new tuner with rca hookups and get a powered sub or a new power amp and subwoofer. Thanks again for your reply. Great, now I have stereo GAS, sucks. H.N.Y.:hyper:

that yamaha is the one we bought, open box special, hence the 99.99 price. But it and the sony only have rca inputs in back, so we're s.o.l. Looks like it will be returned manana and will look at some sub speaker configuration down the road. Hey the old sony cabs had 10" paper cone speakers that had desintegrated in the cab and they would still cut in and out. I finally took off the front covers and saw how bad they were, so these new ones are the shiznit for now. They surely sound better than the old ones did and not a bad little bass thump either. They are each backed into a corner of a long, narrow room, sitting on hard stone tile surface, so Sade' bassist, a BMF, was thumping the sunroom tonite. We're happy:hyper: ....for now. peace.

Yours doesnt have the connections on the left like this? This is the back of the Yamaha sub.

thats exactly what we need, I dont have the model # to the one we got as its in the trunk for return. But salelslug said it was the same as the one in the sound room, though that one had a wooden cab ours has a grey/silverish kinda plastic cab. But I looked at the back of the one in the sound room and it only has a single rca input. But we'll take the model # of the one you replied to me with and see if we can order that very same model. Big help buddy, thanks alot. Lets see if BB can come thru now. The sub we bought they finally found out was from a 5 piece speaker box set that had been returned. I told my gal that even at $100 it was overpriced but they had no others in stock and they would not sell us any of the wood cab floor models, which I prefer. It was like being at a car dealers all day, with all the waiting and speaking to 2 mgrs while hagglin the price, geez. But the girl was impatient, it is her stereo, and she wanted to leave with a sub plus the 2floor cabs we picked. So now, its in her trunk to return tomorrow but I will show her this in the A.M before she heads out. We may have order it but at least it will work for us. Sorry for long reply, our bad for not checking our system before we left, now shopping continues. Ah well...
