So I am waiting patiently for a true boutique bass to be made and while I never get bass gas, I have some right now. I am completely down, I noticed that Atkinson basses don't do custom jobs any more, and fender limits me to 3 basses, an American standard P and the same J and a standard (is that the same as MIM?) J. I never really noticed how lucky all of you are, I get 2 colour choices and you get 15. I wish there was a LH American Deluxe J or a LH 50th anniversary J but I guess 10% of the market isn't enough to worry about satisfying. I am really not trying to complain I guess I made this thread to see if there are other options out there to get a good quality bass for a reasonable price. All options will be considered and researched. Thanks. Cheers.

Seriously, though, that does suck. But, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I can't imagine being limited by either major manufacterers or boutique/custom prices. Best of luck in your search.

Fender made a lefty Jazz Deluxe from 1999-2008 or so. They came in transparent red, black, natural, and sunburst. They show up on ebay pretty often. Personally, I thought they looked and sounded pretty lame, so I mad my own with Warmoth parts.
Not to rub it in, but everyone should be discouraged from playing left handed. I learned drums left handed and it was nothing but a problem my whole life, so I know how you feel.
I don't think I've ever seen a left handed bassist in a symphony and I'm sure many are lefty. There aren't left handed pianos or saxaphones. You use both hands when you play no matter what.

He chose to do that, he liked the tone controls close to his arm, I find they get in the way. I guess it would work on a bass like a Hofner or a EB3 but not on a fender or Ric type bass, Imo. Really neat info about MIJ. Please keep all suggestions coming! Cheers.
i'm a lefty but i switched to playing guitars and basses righty as a young kid because my dad had righty guitars. playing righty has deffinitely made things easier over the years (i couldn't play lefty now if it tried) but sometimes i think i'd have faster plucking speed if i had stayed lefty.
Pretty much this. Order a 62ri or 75ri Jazz, around the same price as the US made stuff, usually a little less, equal in quality and sound.

I was in your same situation a few years ago, looking for a Jazz Bass. The only options were MIM and MIA Standard, and they were ok, but not great.
Have you checked Warwicks? They have the same models and prices for right/left handed (even the optional features, like colours, 5 or 6 strings, ...). And here in Europe they are cheaper than MIA Fenders

First guitar I bought was a right handed classical student model the dude sold to me so he could score some weed. The guitar lasted 30 years in my possession until my wife pulled an "El Kabong" incident about 3 months ago. I was secretly thanking the guitar gods that she grabbed the cheapest thing in my collection....
IMO there is no orientation for an instrument that requires both hands -the whole lefty righty thing is a crutch designed by people who want to perform a 30% markup on a lackluster instrument.
I recently saw what I think was the only justification for left hand guitars which WAS classical guitar with all the picking hand complexity and very little fret hand work comparatively speaking.

Carvin and G&L are lefty friendly - every bass they make is available lefty or righty for no additional charge. There are many more lefty options than there were years ago. Also, didn't that fellow from the Beatles play bass left handed
The bassist of J rock band luna sea used to own this lefty jazz bass, he flipped it over and strung the strings in the opposite order and played it righty.

I have heard so much about the Squire CV basses (how they are as good as the collectible JV series from the 80's and some even go so far as to say they are as good as MIA) I can't find any left handed. But I did see this

I suppose that playing left handed could be an advantage because you don't have many options for instruments. So one would just get a good serviceable bass and get on with musicmaking and stop wasting time drooling over "the next bass I need to get because it will make me a so much better player".
I never ever thought it sucked to play lefty...I've been doing it for 25 years with plenty of different companies making basses at all cost points.
I look at ebay stuff daily and there must be at least 50 weekly on there for sale ( and I don't mean Chinese 100.00 junk either )

I've only been playing for about 6 months and I'm a lefty (who writes right handed) for my sins. I really can't play right handed, believe me I've tried!
I have been scouring the internet for a good starter bass as i'm currently playing a right handed bass upside down and it's awkward for me.
I came across this website that sells a lot of Warwick left handed models. But it seems a little too good to be true, just wondered if anyone knew if they're real or not?
