Are you able to change one string at a time? That's the only issue I had with mine that I had on a Tbird that I have since sold. And yes it helps get the silks off the saddles for better intonation.

Yes. you can leave the other strings on holding the bar in place theoretically. this always works for D and G strings, but sometimes it is hard to unthread the A and E strings, especially larger gages. Not impossible, but difficult. When I change all the strings I string the new set through the bar and then line them up and install them as usual.
If I remember right the problem I had was the angle the ball end was sitting. When I tried to remove the string it would hit against the body and was impossible to pull out. I ended up having to remove the strings all at the same time, which can be a pain on a 3 point bridge. I would move the bass around not thinking and drop saddles all over the place!
Interesting. Thanks for sharing that. BTW, I use roundwounds on it, not flats, and it snarls when you push it.
It's incredible with rounds! I leave the tone control on the bass all the way up and the 3way pretty much in the middle and it sounds crazy good.
I've got DR Hi Beams, Pure Blues, and Black Beauties on mine, but need to try tapes as well some day.
From great bargain to not so much in one swell foop. Oh well. That's a lot for used, isn't it? Had better be in great condition.

For used that would be a bit much. I saw an alpine white at a local GC marked for 799.00, which I thought was a bit on the crazy high side. I got my mint Silverburst and hard case used for 500.00.
Needs to be approached with some finesse and a little respect (like any hollow or semi-hollow body bass needs to be played) and be plugged into a decent amp. But if you do that, the Jack Casady Artist Signature is an awesome bass IMO. And a bit of a steal at what it's currently going for. (I especially like the Alpine White models.)

I think too much is made about the size of the Jack Bass. Neither Jack, himself, nor I are very big, and I have no problem with its size. Neither does Jack.
I've played one for 18 years, and have yet to find a better instrument at any price. They are versatile, very responsive to hand placement and string type. The Varitone switch is easy to use, if you want to switch sonic gears. McCartney's bass player and Ringo's bass player uses them - hmmm. Many professionals use them. They are a bargain priced professional grade instrument.
I got 2 sets of Rotosound 55's compressed round wounds for Christmas. What a treat on the Jack bass! I feel so spoiled.

They are great! I think they just look big compared to solid bodies. And yes responsive is a good way to put it! They will teach you to clean up any bad techniques or habits they are so responsive! Great bass. I put some new Blue Steels on mine last week and now it roars!
Just look at any pic of Jack next to Jorma - now, Jorma's a pretty big guy, sure (about my size, but without the gut), but you can tell just how thin and slight Jack really is, a good wind would pick him up. If it's not too big for him, it's not too big for anyone.
When I was in Memphis last week for the International Blues Challenge, I got to try one at the Gibson factory shop. Wow, I really dug the deep punchy tone. So on the way back to Ft. Lauderdale, had a two hour layover in Tampa. So what to do.....go bass shopping! Found a used Ebony one on Reverb.com and snagged it for $500, including the hardshell case! From some music shop in Nashville.
Well got it today and I must say....score! This baby is like brand new, not a mark on it. And the setup was perfect right out of the box too (they may have set it up at the shop I bought it from). And the case is also like new. Only spent a little time with it, but I really dig the tone. Will give it a run this weekend at a gig. And...the required proof of life photo:

No clue! The round wound strings that came on it sound great. Don't seem that old neither. The have red windings on the ends, so maybe GHS strings?
Hmm, not sure. I use Blue Steels and they are light blue. Maybe someone will be able to identify them. Be nice to know so if you like them you can get them again.
