Suddenly unexpectedly laid off club..

Got hired by one of the competitors, better company, better products, amazing team AND doubled my salary.
My ol'lady found a job too, a good one and they want to train her to become manager... So next month when paychecks starts to rain we will throw a party, anyone comin?

Does getting laid off for 9 weeks count? This my 7th time getting laid off in 37 yrs with my company. Well at least I can draw unemployment. Oh hell, that's bound to draw some hate feedback. I guess I needed to loose some weight anyway. Country/western gigs don't pay much in Texas either, and No I'm not selling any of my basses. Already tried to sell my Fender Precision Bass Plus and all I got was jokes about my "BONER", because I had trouble trying to download pictures that were too big. May GOD BLESS YOU, and all of us in these hard times my bass brother.
i was laid off on a monday afternoon and was hired as a landscaper the thursday of that week. i went from a bridal store to cutting grass in a week.
at least im not broke.. and i work for my brother, so he's not going to completely screw me.

Was laid off early '08, moved to TX late '08, wife landed a job about a month after getting to TX and that was helping hold us over 'til I land something. My unemployment, including extensions, has run out and wife was laid off today.
Karma has not been kind to us over the past couple of years.
I've applied and sent resumes to over 1,000 positions (no exaggeration) w/ no luck. We burned through most of our savings before moving to and including the move to TX and have been living paycheck to paycheck the past 6 mo's or so. At least I have some gear I can liquidate to hold us over for maybe another month, but that's it.

Sorry to hear about your situation. You might want to find out if there's any Stimulus money available for you and your wife.

Lot of you guys getting into that situation here now, I am really sorry to hear this!!
All I can say is hang in there and don't give up on finding something, I spent all days almost from the first day looking for new leads for finding work and thankfully it all gave result in the end, I wish you all good luck guys!!!

First off D.Don, congratulations to you and your wife for having so much luck.
I'm sure it's also not just luck but skills.
Kudos on the happy end for your short period of unemployment.
You hit a sensitive spot there.
I personally can't complain, I run my own business and things are going great. Despite the economic crisis I'm already having a better year than last year.
But so many aren't that lucky.
A factory where I used to work had announced massive lay offs a month ago.
I loved to work there and still know a lot of my old collegues from there.
Sad situations.
To all TB members here that are in similar situations of losing their job, you guys have my symphaty and best wishes.
I'm sure it's also not just luck but skills.
