Suggest jazz pickup and electronics...

I'm thinking of getting a 5-string jazz bass made and wanted to see what my best options were for pickups and electronics. I'm looking for an aggressive and growly, yet musical, tone that's great for slap and fingerstyle.

What would you suggest? Thx.

If you're looking for vintage growl, I'd recommend the Fender Custom Shop 60's, Fralins, or SD Basslines. The Fender/Fralins will be pretty similar, the SD's will be a bit more modern sounding, but still have the J growl.

I don't know what the availability of the Fender/Fralins is for a 5-string.

Aero 5 string pickups are very agressive sounding, they're stock on the Lakland Daryl Jones line of basses.

On the pickup topic my Geddy Lee has been retrofit from stock to custom shop 60's to Fralins and finally Dimarzio J's.The Fralins were buttery smooth,even across the strings and very vintage sounding but I just prefer the growl and agressivness that I can pull out of the Dimarzio's.

bottom line, it sounds great.

For some reason, I wasn't able to hear the clips on my Mac, but how would you compare, tonally, the Nordie Big Singles with the Aero's that come on your Lakland DJ? Thx!

The Big Singles have more overall clarity IMO, the Aero's aren't quite as articulate.
