Suggest me a new preamp

Hi.
I have an Ibanez SR1000 EFM bass and I'd like to replace the stock preamp. From what I read the pickups are American Bartolini custom and should be decent quality. The bass plays great but I was never really happy with the recorded sound, so I want to try upgrading the preamp.

My sound ideal is a fat punchy sound like 90's metal such as Pantera, Prong, Faith No More etc. The bass sound in this song is pretty much what I'd like to acheive.

Thanks.

The tone really really really depends on the pickups. Bartolini makes lots of different types, with lots of different tones. If the pickup isn’t delivering the right basic tone, then nothing downstream is going to fix that.

Make sure you have the right pickups, then put a John East preamp in it.

Well, I don't think changing the pickups is an option since the size doesn't really fit anything I've seen anywhere else. 4.05" x 1.165"

Thanks for the preamp suggestions. Although I was more thinking of something off the shelf like EMG or that new Tone Capsule from Darkglass.
