Suggestion for selling effects

I wouldn't spend $200 on any pedal unless it would play bass for me when I have to go to the restroom.

I don't really care how people sell what they want to get rid of. That is completely up to the seller. I was just giving some food for thought.

More food for thought: if guitar center and musicians friend have the same product for sale at the same price, I buy from musicians friend because I like their descriptions.

When I sell pedals I use a general format that's brief, but informative:

Name of the pedal - Brief description of what it is/does ("classic compressor", "modded big muff clone", "low gain, tube-like overdrive", etc.) - Quick run down of features (how many band eq, general control layout, that sort of thing) - overall cosmetic/functional condition ("like new in box", "well used, scuffed around the edges, but works great", etc. and anything of note that should be pointed out) - Price.

I'm sure it's true that anyone can do a search for any item and look up reviews, videos and that sort of thing, but it doesn't take much effort to provide some quick information that may reduce the amount of necessary communication to make a sale.

lfmn16 - I agree with you 100%. it would be very helpful to have the Effects categorized by: fuzz, OD, distortion, phaser, Wah and so on. I also do not have a bunch of extra time to research every pedal and sift through several bad youtube videos and read a million talkbass threads. HOWEVER, when I do HAVE TIME to do that, I will gladly do it. But to designate a pedal as "fuzz" would certainly help me look somewhere else and stop researching pedals I don't want.

There are several people on here that will buy ANY pedal you have just to try it out and most likely sell it later. There is nothing wrong with that. If they want an OD or Fuzz pedal, why not make it easier for them to locate it? Wounded Paw - Black Sheep. Just what the heck does that do? Put "OD" in the title and now you have made it easier for someone to find it. If I want a Fuzz pedal, how am I going to know that an Earthbound Super Collider is a Fuzz pedal? What if I have 30 minutes to use the PC before the kids need to use it? Putting a simple "Fuzz" in the title at least narrows the field for me and I can focus on researching 5 specific pedals instead of 35.

Yes!Yes!Yes. Thank you very much Gearhead17, all we are asking for is a simple 1or2 word description like "fuzz pedal" or "chorus pedal" etc. in the title. No long winded stories about how the pedal works or sounds, that's what Youtube is for. Your example was perfect, Earthbound Super Collider? No I am not a scientist looking for a machine to discover the secrets of the universe, I want an effects pedal. So please, 1or2 more words is not a lot to ask for.

Musician's Friend is a subsidiary of GC. This is not a comment on whether your decision is good, bad, right, wrong or otherwise. Just thought you might like to know, especially if you think that you're spiting GC by going to MF.

As for this topic of Ad descriptors, I agree with jumblemind. It's a community of effects enthusiasts who tend to offer better prices to their TB brethren than typical online outlets would. With that in mind, salesmanship is not really something we're focusing on. Most of the "selling" really happens here in the Effects forum anyway. It's thread after thread of people claiming GAS. That said, I guess I see it both ways. I just happen to hate really long titles in the classifieds so I'd rather see that content placed in the ad, not the title - if done well, it's always searchable.
