Suggestion on last/next effect?

Hey guys,

I am in the process of updating my effects. Im looking for one more final stompbox to add to the collection.

The linup consists of:

- DI/EQ/Distortion
- Filter/Octave Effect
- Fuzz
- Compressor
- Tuner

I would ideally like one more.

What effect do you think i need, and if so, any specific examples? Are than any necessary bass effects i am lacking?

I play Acoustic and Electric bass. Im looking for a Tool, Muse, BTBAM type of sound.

Thanks guys.

First off, when you're trying to think if you "need" something, and can't think of anything... it's okay to conclude you don't "need" anything else at the moment.

I did notice that you don't have any modulation on your proposed board. Do some reading on chorus/flanging/phaser units, listen to youtube examples, and you'll have a good idea of what suits you... if, in fact, you really "need" something else. You might also look at gear lists for the people you're trying to sound like.

Hey man,

Yeah i know what you mean. I just like asking these questions in the forum because i like to get first hand experience and feedback. I have been doing countless research on different effects but i still cant make my mind up. I dont mind chorus, but im not completely sold on it. I do like Flangers but i have also been considering another filter or stand alone octave.

Any thoughts anyone?

Really, if you can't think of any other type of effect you need, maybe you might want another of the same type. Probably a different fuzz, as there are too many variations with completely different flavors. I own three fuzzes, an overdrive and two distortions myself, and I'm tempted to get at least one other fuzz when the wallet allows it.

I agree that if you don't know what you want you probably don't need anything, but based on what type of sounds you like, I'd suggest a flanger of some type. The Boss BF-2 is common and cheap and sounds good. I am a big fan of the DOD FX72, but it's a little less common, though usually still cheap.

I'm looking for a tool-esque sound, too. Like in 46 & 2. I was using the Boss GT-10B and had a chorus/flanger effect that was nice. I'm switching to ind. pedals, now. I've been staring at the Markbass Chorus but am having trouble pulling the trigger. It's just so expensive and I only use it on a song or two. But everything else (like the Ashdown Chorus +) gets bad wraps on being noisey. I'd rather shell out the cash than mess up my sound. Anyone know a cheap pedal that comes close to the Markbass? I'm guessing it's awesome because you can't find used ones anywhere.

So...funny story, my Markbass Chorus came in today. I got it used from musiciansfriend for pretty cheap. It looked in great condition...exactly as shown. I start playing on it...and I'm not digging the sounds at all. In fact, it's mostly synth with a little bit of octaver. I assumed the old owner did some crazy stuff to it so I restored it...same thing.

I plug it in to the laptop....and realize it's labeled as a synthesizer...did some further investigating and see that the Markbass Chorus/Flanger looks exactly like the Super Synth, just different labels.

As far as I can tell, somehow the Chorus/Flanger faceplate got put on the Supersynth body. Crazy stuff. mf is sending me a brand new pedal at the same cost as the used one. I can only hope that somewhere, Bootsy is opening his new synth pedal and saying, "Glory be, this ain't no synth pedal."

I've decided to go with:

Delay
Fuzz
And some sort of modulation.

So then the lineup will consist of:

Di/dist./eq
Envelope filter
Compressor
Tuner
Delay
Fuzz
Modulation

Any tips on the type of modulation (thinking of small stone or boss flanger/chorus) and the optimum order for the pedals?

Thanks in advance!
