Suggestions for a modest analog setup?

I just switched to bass duties not too long ago from guitar. Right now I have a Pod HD Pro which is a really nice rack unit that I adore but, unfortunately it only has one bass amp model...

I'm tempted to sell it for a Pod X3 rack unit or scrap the digital unit all together for a nice modest analog setup. I play a fretless 5-string Carvin that really sings. I need suggestions for pedals/amps/cabs! I'm playing mostly progressive metal. I love the bass tone Thessling uses in Obscura and Lester from Intronaut (nice clear punch that cuts the mix well)

I guess this would fall under the effects category too.. Thanks!

Fx pedals are way too much a matter of personal taste, and the choices are staggering. But, check out a Mesa M9 Carbine head with a pair of Powerhouse 2x12's for a smokin' hot amp rig.

I googled Intronaut. Nice sound. Not really scooped, even a bit mid-forward. Not sure you'd need effects to get a sound like that. And if you got that Mesa, whoa. That's a rocker's amp.

What kind of effects are you interested in?
