Suggestions for an amp with a headphone input

Hey everyone. I'm looking to buy an amp head for home use and since I'd be bothering others in the house with the noise if I were to run it through my cab, it would need to have a headphone input. It will also see the occasional gig with a pretty loud post-rock band that I'm in so I need it to pack a bit of power for when it comes down to doing the business live also. And last but not least, I'm looking for something that's not too expensive. I'm not asking for too much am I? :D

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions! :)

I think a headphone "output" is what you're after, but no worries!

Personally I wouldn't want to compromise my gig rig based on this. There's lot's of options available for "silent practice". Things you can pick-up used like those bass trainers, pods, and especially dirt cheap little practice amps usually have headphone outs. When I was younger I used to use an old Hi Fi plugging into the 1/4" phono input and using the headphone output. You can also get an inexpensive headphone amp and use any line-out or effects-out.

Getting decent headphones does help a lot, but IMO you're not going to really "hear" your amp the same way through a set of cans as you will through your speaker cab so it's not vital to always be practicing through your actual gig amp.

Ah output, yes indeed, my bad!

I should add that I would also be using this as a back up amp, hence saying it will only see the occasional gig. I've been meaning to buy something as a back up to my main rig for quite a while now, in case anything goes wrong on the night etc. Otherwise I would go down the road you're talking about as you're right, it would be a lot easier and also a lot less expensive!

If you like the Ampeg sound, then the Micro CL/VR, PF-350/500, or SVT-7 Pro are all great options. If you prefer the Genz Benz sound, then (warm) Streamliner or (neutral) Shuttle series amps are excellent. I can't say enough good about my STM-900. It's the last amp I'll buy until it dies.
