I'm in the market for an amp head and cab, since I'm only running through a 100watt SWR amp right now. Ive got about $700 saved up for this, and from what I've seen, an Avatar cab definitely looks like the way to go. However, I'm a little confused as far as ohms go, and am unsure of whether to go with a 4ohm or 8ohm version. Any tips on that, and suggestions on a head would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As far as ohms go, I think 4 is the desirable number. But whenever you get two cabs the number of ohms get split in half, (so 8 would become 4 if you had two 8 ohm cabs.) So if you plan on getting two cabs and using both get 8 ohms, but if you just want one get a 4 ohm.

So say a cab was rated at 200watts @ 4ohms and 100watts @ 8 ohms. If you bought 2 of them, you would need a 400watt amp to fully power them, or would you only need a 200watt?

It's not all that. Usually you'd get your amp sorted first, then get some cabs for it. Say you wind up eith a 500 watt @ 4ohms amp, you'd wany either a 500 watt 4 ohm cab, or 2 250 watt 8 ohm cabs. Like that.
