Summer Build Off 2022: Bandwagoning - A Short Scale 4 Stringer

Well, I'm finally ready to enter this: Summer Build Off 2022 - Fun Time Free For All

This is my entry in the Scratch Build Category

Specs:
Body: Poplar
Neck: Fretted 3 piece hard and big leaf figured maple with a roasted black locust fretboard, painted headstock
Neck/Body Join: bolt on
Scale Length: 31”
Fingerboard Radius: 15”
Strings: I dunno yet
Pickups: hofner-style imports, all tested and working
Electronics: passive, VT,
Controls: Volume/Tone, probably rotary, but I have sliders too. Individual pickup switches. Or maybe a five position rotary.
Knobs: to be determined
Bridge: two piece aluminum vintage style with brass saddles
Tuners: Gotoh GB350s
Finish: Epoxy sealcoat with paint (not sure which yet)

It's highly derivative of other designs I covet. It's stylistically retro and influenced by TB.

Hopefully those pickups sound as good as they look!

They're cute, huh? I have always like the hofner pickups for their 60s-ish-ness, so when I saw these with only three left, I grabbed them. They were about $30 bucks total. They are single coils, not too terribly noisy or microphonic, 6.7k (all three are really close), and sound kind of thumpy (I'm 100% sure I'm projecting that onto them ). I tested by clipping them directly to a jack and suspending them over strings.

Are you going to put all three pickups into this build?
Looking a little bit like a Serek style body in the first sketch.

Also, speaking with my daughter (the design consultant for this bass), looks like it will be dark blue with a yellow-cream pickguard. She thinks it should be dyed and clearcoated rather than painted. I'm not a huge fan of that approach on poplar, but then again it can certainly look good with the right pieces. Mine are pretty green - one in particular, but I'll do some testing.
