Sun Bowl Amphitheater @ Sun City, AZ (Video link added)

I played a different (for me anyway) gig last night on the west end of Phoenix. Didn't know what to expect but went really well.

Sun City is a famous retirement community built in the early 60's. They have a great outdoor venue, the Sun Bowl Amphitheater for concerts and events. The best part is they have a killer JBL sound system and lights with a crew that knows what they are doing!

The drive up was easy. No traffic issues and great weather.

Parking is right in back of the shell with a very easy short load in.

A couple shots of the empty venue and setup. Very nice place.

And a few action shots:

The crowd was beyond great. We played 30 minutes of encore until the venue shut us down. They would have stayed all night.

Thanks for taking a look. This was really cool for me.

Fantastic gig Mark.. Did a bus breakdown or something? Where the hell did all those people come from? You should share them with the rest of us . ;)

Hi Mark!

What a terrific venue! I've driven by that place several times but never realized Sun City had a mini-Hollywood Bowl. It's not often that I play for crowds that size but it sure is a blast, right? You guys looked like you were having the best time. That ain't your usual honky tonk dive bar. ;)

The stage, lights, and sound looked top notch too. They really know how to put on a show there. Very cool. I noticed you brought out the full rig for the big outdoor stage. I'll bet the acoustics were great.

You must've gotten some rain lately. The desert looks pretty green. Lovely.

Thanks for sharing your killer gig. Don't we wish they were all like that? :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Great report and pics!!
Question: I went to ASU from 1979 to 1982. At that time there was a venue ( I never went to) called Compton Terrace. Is this the old Compton Terrace? I remember reading gig reports in the State Press about Joan Jett and the GoGos playing there. Always wanted to go see a show but I was on a a Ramen-noodle-Hamms budget in those days.
