Part Two of my driver upgrade project. I've decided to go with Eminence Kappalite 3015's for my Sunn 215SH folded horn cabinet which outputs the low end of my biamped setup, and now it's time to figure out what to put in the 212LH high frequency box. I'm thinking this might be a little trickier decision. For the 215SH I was only concerned with low bass, but the 212LH has to be more of a multirole player. It's one half of the cabinet that John Entwhistle used and it was a really big part of his sound; my cabinet has a sound very reminiscent of his which I love and don't want to radically alter. It's a ported cabinet (not sure if it qualifies as horn loaded, but the drivers are set back in a horn-like structure) approximately 3.2 square feet internal volume with a 23" wide by 1" high by 12" deep port in front way at the bottom. It came with two Sunn 1216G drivers at 16 ohms apiece; they were actually guitar transducers (G as opposed to B suffix) which may explain some of their cool high end sound. They're only rated at 60 watts apiece though, which means my new 350 watt per channel Crown will put them at risk. So I'm looking for 12" bass or possibly PA drivers that will be a good replacement in this cabinet. I'm not sure that I want to replace them with guitar drivers unless someone knows of a really good one that works well for biamped bass applications. I run my biamp crossover at a little over 1K with some overlap between HPF and LPF, so it would be good for these to have decent bass response to support the 215SH cabinet, but it's most important that they have a nice crisp high frequency sound. Neodymium magnets are preferable but not absolutely required since this isn't an extremely heavy box to begin with, and I'd also like to go with 8 ohm drivers instead of 16 this time. I've decided that I'd like to have an all-Eminence setup as well. I've looked at the Basslite S2012 and the Deltalite II 2512 among others. They both seem to have decent numbers in their response graphs from the 1K to 4K ranges, but I'm sure that this alone doesn't tell the whole story. Eminence also makes a dizzying lineup of different 12's so I'm hoping that some of you fine TalkBass folk might be able to offer some help from your experiences. Thanks again for your assistance.
