SUNN O))

In two weeks SUNN O))) is playing for us southern californians here in L.A. and I'm really stoked to see them for my second time. Anyone else ready to loose their hearing and never want to listen to music again? I sure as hell am! Anyways I was just wondering what you drone fans out there (if any) thought of their new record 'Monoliths and Dimensions'?

thanks,
chris

Never want to listen to music again? Huh? Besides that part, they be coming august 13th. Dragging my dad along to it too! As a veteran, what hearing protection would you suggest? I have the hi-fi thingamajigs I use with my band, but I fear it may not be enough. Black One came in the mail yesterday, currently enjoying that. Except for the last song, people claim it's the best on the album, but I hate Malefic's vocals there... Oh well, great album nonetheless, freaked the heck out of me a couple of times, kind of an anti-grimmrobe demo's. The best looking album I think in my collection, the insert of nothing was really cool and the artwork and whole concept are sweet. What do you think of eagle twin and the accused? I love eagle twin and hate the accused, why would a punk-thrash band possibly tour with Sunn O)))? Oh well, win some, lose some.

As for monoliths and dimensions, took some getting used to as it was my first sunn album, but I dig all of the tracks, it really is very good. Big Church and Aghartha are my favorites definitely, but Alice is good also. I havn't had much time to listen to Sunn lately besides Black One yesterday, (kind of hard to get in the mood in a busy schedule) so Dopethrone and Goatsnake's 1 + dogdays have been my sources of easier listening heaviness. Any other tips for the concert, don't eat an hour beforehand because I'll get sick and barf? You never know! :)

Monoliths and Dimensions is a great album, in my eyes. I don't like it quite as much as the Sunn O))) and Boris collaborative effort Altar, though, but that's probably to be expected. :)

I wish that Sunn O))) would play close to where I live soon. I missed them last time they were in town, four or five years ago.

I'd absolutely love to see SunnO))) live. They were really my first step into more avant-garde style music- I got into SunnO))) before Isis, or Jesu, or Godflesh...

Probably my number one choice for best metal band ever.

I just saw them 2 weeks ago. HOLY F-ING MOTHER OF GOD. It was the first time I listened to music with my body as much as my ears. Everybody I talked to was blown away and physically exhausted. I did use some "hifi" earplugs (etymotic research) -20db. No problems. But Holy mother, talk about moving air! It was sweet!!!
The singer they have with em is this Attila Csihar cat. He does a bunch of Tuvan throat singing. Wow! what a wicked man. I guess he sang on one of Mayhems albums.
It reminded me of some kind of Druidic solstice seance. The HEAVIEST, DARKEST show I have ever been to. Do not miss it if they come around.

I've seen SunnO))) a few times now. It's ALWAYS a blast to see them. While i have also seen bands do the drone thing BETTER in a live setting (Earth, Khannate, and Floor i am looking at you), SunnO))) just puts on a great visual presentation that is very hard to beat(the cloaks, fog, interpretive dancers...).

Haha, the last time i saw them i even stood with Ian MacKaye as we both soberly banged our heads and got lost in the trance of doooooooooooooom
