My band started out as a three-piece. The drummer is/was a very hard hitter, very loud. Our guitarist was, at the time, playing through an Ampeg VT-22 combo side by side with a vintage Sunn Model T head through a 4x12 Vox cab. No 100 watt tube head ever cut it for bass, even through my Ampeg 8x10. V-4B? Not even close. Musicman HD-130? Nope. To the OP: If your heart is set on a Sunn tube amp, the 2000S is probably your best bet, along with the Sunn 300T. The solid state Sunn offerings like the Concert Lead/Bass or Coliseum Lead/Bass amps are some of the loudest amps I've ever heard, and they can sound good. However, if I was you, I wouldn't rule out other high wattage tube heads like the obvious Ampeg SVT, Traynor YBA-3A (rare but, by all accounts, awesome), Mesa 400+, Fender Super Bassman, etc.
I feel obligated to say it yet again, but my GK 800RB with any of the Tech 21 Character pedals sounds incredible, very much like a tube amp and will hang with anything in the volume department with plenty of power to spare, not to mention you will save a ton on repair bills and maintenance costs. If you tour often and don't always have P.A. support, I can't recommend this setup enough. But that's just my two cents.
