super glue your fingers=?

ok apparently my splitting cuticles has become a seasonal deal=dec.=expect fingertips squeeling in agony with splits from 2-3 cuticles on the right hand

i work with my hands i'm a auto painter guy(yeah i've done all of it in 30 years worth of working in the biz and it's not like i'm not ready to do something dif.,,and i will:D,,,figured i'd teach skydiving next year:D)

so!= anybody just goop their d@#$%^&!ed cracked fingertips with super glue so they could PLAY!? and how'd that work for yas?,,,

ok more Skynyrd! i can play that with a pick(and taped up fingertips:bawl:)

I cut up the tip of my right index finger the day before a jazz band concert, I used half a bottle of super glue on it getting the skin sealed. I played fine like that, but removing the superglue tore off more skin... I've also heard about Flea slapping holes in his thumb during concerts, and having a tech doctor up his thumb with superglue between songs...

It'll work (not sure about health risks, just don't get too sniff-happy while applying. :D), just I wouldn't recommend doing it often.

ALSO- Playing fingerstyle with superglued fingers tends to sound more pick-ish in my experience.

I've used cyanoacrylate (CA) or Super Glue on hacks to get through playing but for the future, rather than reactive treatment, have you tried using a good hand cream? I would have laughed this sort of suggestion of years ago, until I worked at a heavy engineering factory, where all the guys were encouraged to use hand cream after the swarfega, as part of their end of work routine, all the changing rooms and restrooms were fitted out with dispensers of the stuff and the number of guys with sore hands, particularly in the winter dropped significantly after the initial stigma of using hand cream was overcome!

These days, come the winter I've always got a tube of Neutrogena handy, two or three times a day if it's really cold and sure you hands may end up a little soft and girly, but you should see your hacks reduce significantly if not disappear...and you partner will thank you too!

They use Super Glue or cyanoacrylate (CA) in hospitals to close up wounds. My son got 'glued' up a wee while back when he split his head.

Well putting superglue in your blood stream can't be a wise move. You think cholesterol can cause clogged arteries? What do you suppose superglue might do?

I know they have a special formulation at the hospital these days for gluing rather than stitches though.

But that said I had a guitard player friend that used to do it on his fingers at times, he is still alive, so I guess I don't know all. :)

It's called New Skin I believe. That's the medical version of superglue, but supposedly it's not any different than regular super glue.

Superglue was invented as a replacment to stitches afaik. As it turns out it doesn't work quite as good, however it is still commonly used on small things, as well as a temporary solution in hospitals.

Push the gap shut, and then glue a small amount over the surface a little just inside the cut. You want it to keep the skin together on the top, but not actually get between the parts inside trying to heal (ideally).

But yeah, works fine.

good call, all good posts, thanks!,,i'm guessing it's just the weather, last year it happened, same month,i don't drink as much water(hardly any when it's as cold as it is and i think that is part of it),,,

i know from doing the fishing guide thing on my river it's known that if you get opened up by a hook=superglue it/cowboy up and go on with the day,,i never have, sticking a fly in an ear or a forhead is not the same as a big flatfish in a hand or forearm,,i'm not done with the flies OR the flatfish(s):eyebrow:so,,somthing to look forward to?

anyway, just curious if it's common or not,i been around all sorts of polycosianate, epoxy, polyeurathane, polyester you name it all my life(doing the autobody deal)

hasn't effected me?,me?,me?:D,,,,,,,,,,ok it's late,thank YOU for the replys(very much) get some rest,christmas is coming:hyper:
