So, if it were to put your favourite musicians in a band, which musicians would you choose and why?

My "supergroup" would be: Vocals: Brandon Boyd (Incubus)
Bass Guitar: Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne)
Electric Guitar: Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit, Black Light Burns)
Drums & Percussion: Danny Carey (Tool)

And the reason is that in my opinion they are all very technical and unique at what they do.

Clapton on vocals and electric guitar.
McCartney on vocals and rhythm guitar.
Ian Anderson on flute and acoustic guitar - no vocals. Ian, your singing days are over.
Bobby Vega on bass.
Chad Smith on drums.

There was a time when my answer would have been:
- Chick Corea, keyboards
- John McLaughlin, guitar
- Jeff Berlin, bass
- Steve Gadd, drums

Then for a time it was more like:
- Tim Berne, alto sax
- Don Byron, clarinet
- George Lewis, trombone
- Django Bates, Eb peckhorn & keyboards
- Bill Frisell, guitar
- Ruth Underwood, mallets
- Mark Dresser, bass [edit: wait, no, make that Bill Laswell]
- Bill Bruford, drums

Nowadays it's probably:
- any group of musicians that can actually make compelling, engaging music that doesn't sound formulaic or trite.
Because that would be just super.

It already happened.

Shrinebuilder.

Al Cisneros
Scott "Wino" Weinrich
Scott Kelly
Dale Crover

I wish they'd get back together, but that's the thing with supergroups. When the main band is touring, no more supergroup. That's where Shrinebuilder is now. All the other bands are dropping new records and other projects, plus touring.

Man, was about to say the same thing! That album is in such high rotation with me; all the time.

Isn't it interesting to read the responses you get to this question based on the age of the poster? Okay - I'm an old fart and proud of it!
Gimmee Jeff Beck and Steve Howe on guitar; Chris Squire on bass; Dr. Lonnie Smith on organ; Walfredo Reyes Jr on drums and Donald Fagen on vocals and piano.

It would rock, but with a jazzy twist

Squire couldn't handle the jazz parts, especially now. But that's never been his thing.;)
