I agree on the bamboo thing. I have a 6' wide standing desk in bamboo. Rock solid, only 1/2 thick. And very sustainable. I also have a Rack made of bamboo.

Not to derail - but has anyone made bamboo necks before that worked out ok?

Also this thread reminded my that "structural beams" made out of wood with some type of binder are also super strong.

A few years back Yamaha made an acoustic guitar entirely out of bamboo. It was reckoned to sound terrible, but that was probably because of the top.

Were Kubicki necks ever made of bamboo? Someone above my pay grade should try it ( many laminates ).

Stronger than steel ( or especially aluminum )? Maybe stronger than graphite - and I love my Parker Fly.

I did see a Kubicki graphite neck one-off that I believe that Moses made. The existing 31 ply laminate is probably more than strong enough to warrant a need to try different methods.

The church property I live on has about 1/2 acre of Bamboo. Anyone who wants to come and get it is more than welcome. We can't get rid of the damn stuff!

I made a bamboo neck that did not turn out ok, which isn’t what you asked but maybe still a useful data point. To be fair, it was not really the bamboo’s fault. If not for the glue problem, it would have been fine.

Thanks! Honestly, who has experience in doing, what, a 22-layer(?) Bamboo laminate like Mr. K did? But I think someone with a lot of time on their hands should try it. Might work out better/easier than graphite/epoxy/aluminum. How knows? Gotta be cheaper.

Again, I have a 8 foot wide standing/moving desk made of bamboo laminate. And it holds all the Scotch and Beer I can load it with. Call it inspiration
