You know how at the end of nearly every youtube video, the person says “like and subscribe to our page!” - well, those likes and subs were part of the youtube formula to promote videos. Now youtube has taken it a step further: any channel with under 1,000 subs and under 4,000 hours of annual viewtime will no longer receive monetization. This will kill off all the little guys from youtube!
So, please, if there’s a channel on youtube you like that doesn’t get many subs that you’d like to stick around, subscribe to them. Heck, post a link here to their channel so we can all discover and support them!
(my channel has 80 something videos and generates 200,000 minutes of viewtime annually - short of the 4,000 hour requirement. I have around only 200 subs, and have made about $60/year in revenue. Its not much, at all (!), but like any hobby, its nice to feel slightly appreciated when you put in the time to make videos for others to enjoy. I’ll likely pull my channel completely. I had big plans. My friend is retiring, and we were going to do a show weekly. He’s an awesome musician with great gear and great stories.)
