Suprise under pickguard

So i bought an 07 MIM Jazz, took of the pickguard to replace with another and found this hole near the neck pickup. It almost looks like it is there for a reason.

Does anyone have an idea as to what this is?

It's what the CNC routing machines use to hold onto the body of the bass while it does its thing.

pretty sure all the mim fenders have them- mine has one also.

Do a TB search for "hole under jazz bass pickguard" and you'll be surprised at the information that you find.
