SVT 2 Pro heat solution

I've had my SVT 2 Pro for about three months. The head was basically brand new when I got it and has been heavily gigged since. It's kept in a Gator ABS 4-space shock case, which provides 360 degrees of ventilation. After the first few shows, I noticed that the amp still got pretty hot. The internal fan is working and all, and maybe it's supposed to operate at that high of a temperature; but I wanted to get the heat down some. I installed a high-speed 4" rack fan onto the outside of the back grill of the amp, which pulls hot air out of the amp. Now the amp doesn't get even a little hot. This seems like a good thing. The amp's tone is still perfect. Can anyone see any problems with this setup? Will this make the tubes or other internal components last longer?

Depending a bit of the venues You play in, I'd supply filtered air into an amp (/rack) rather than suck the unfiltered air into the amp. Or if the inlet grilles can be covered with filters, that works also.

All the caps are enjoying that reduced temperature, that's for sure.

I was thinking of putting some filter material on the input grills (on the side of the amp). On some of my past amps, I put some air conditioner (window unit) filter material over the grills. It seemed to work fine. Anyone got any other suggestions for a filter material?

BTW, are the now-cooler tubes going to operate as well as they would if they were running hotter?
 
Hi.

The AC filter material is good, regardless of the grade, it filters enough. You don't need the active carbon inpregnated though. Just the plain one.

I couldn't find the minimum operating temperatures for the power tubes with a quick search, but I doubt that any normal ventilation would drop the temperature below the minimum required. I have a feeling that it's around 80C at the bulb, considerably more in the innards. (The max for 6550 is around 250C at the bulb)
