I've had to sacrifice my on stage tone many times because of the venue. If you are a musician, it comes with profession. I suppose these days IF you have venues with good FOH, your only worry is messing with the FOH engineers. We only have one venue with a system at all around here.
I think we've all been there. The original quote I was debating was that all bass amps sound the same FOH, to which I disagree.
I figured they were also talking about how they all sound the "same" to the audience, a frequent argument that I never understand. To me, that's the stereotypical fat/lazy/smelly/failed guitarist bass player saying "why should I care about my tone when the audience can't tell the difference?"
That's what I was talking about with taking pride in the music you make, whether it's live, recorded, or both. If they don't care why are they even playing in the first place?
