SVT-212AV vs. GK NEO 212

Yes the gk 412 is heavy but light for a 412 cabinet, part of the reason I'm looking at a svt 212av is to be able to move up and down stairs without having someone to help me. The 412 is a 4ohm cab as well.

I hear you with the stairs but you'll regret selling that cab someday. Sure its overkill for just about everything but even at sane volumes it still has incredible presence.

I've played through both and I think both have pluses and minuses. For the sound I like, I'd probably go for the Ampeg, but I can easily see how some people would prefer the more shaped sound of the GK.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, this helps. If the svt212 was that much better I was considering selling the 412 getting prob just enough to afford the svt212av. I agree under 100lbs is light for a 412 cab , lighter then my 610 cabs ... but at 26"x40" man you have to have some muscle to move up and down stairs (at home) by yourself (gigs I have help). I should of added all my current cabs are 40"+ tall another reason for the svt212av. Anyways, this is great stuff, I think I'll keep the gk412 and custom grill to match the v4b. Again I don't hate the sound as I think the v4b makes any cab sound good, just intreged with all the great reviews the svt212 has had.

The Ampeg is about 16lbs heavier than the GK, and I can't for the life of me figure out why Ampeg won't put Speakons on their cabinets. Those two reasons alone should make GK the clear winner.

Weight and connection should be the last of anyone's concern. The GK sounds horrible in comparison to the Ampeg 2x12. I have over 200 shows with the 2x12 and it sounds great. Also very durable as I skip on road cases for my rig. The Rolex gets beat up but who cares how it looks. 100% recommend it.

A cranked PF800 into a 212AV is going to be pretty loud. Would you need more than that? If not, you can't beat the tone of that pairing.

I'm hoping that one would be enough- probably would.

They are 2 completely different sounding cabs for sure, the Ampeg truly sounds like a sealed cab, which is a good thing.
The GK has more of a mid bump, and can fart out in the lows if you push the bass freq's a little to hard.
Then there's the 4ohm thing vs. the 8ohm.

I have a GK 212 Neo ii and a Mesa Powerhouse 212.
Only reason i didn't pick up the Ampeg is cause i have a 700RB ii which you cannot run at 2ohms.

Believe it or not, that paring, when run together, sound great.
Even though the GK is a little more efficient then the Mesa.

You can't go wrong with the Ampeg, it truly is an amazing sounding cab.

And, if you wanted to go modular, a more expensive route, but worth it, is 2 1x12av's, the singles sound awesome in their own right, a bit more punchier sounding.
Was the original route i wanted to pair with my 700RB ii, but gas had a strangle hold on me and i caved.

Besides, my cousin got me the GK 212 for my birthday last year, and got a great deal on the Mesa 212, used from a great fellow TB'r.
