Svt 4 Pro or SVT Classic?

im sure youve answered this before, but ill ask you again lol. in your opinion, how close is the VR to the original blueline series?
pretty darn close, dude. like "blindfolded i doubt i could tell" close. i am told they could benefit by a better preamp tube than the stockers, but i thought it was pretty good stock.

Tubes? just be prepared for the upkeep costs and weight. Bottom line, which sounds best to you?
upkeep costs...bah...used my b-15n for 7 years without so much as a re-biasing. used my v4b for 10-11 years of hard labor doing 5-6 nights a week without any service, too. only thing that could stop that amp from working was a bar fire. tube amp upkeep costs are very overrated. just don't replace every tube when you only need to replace one and you'll find it's no more expensive than keeping up a solid state amp.

evening out your string volumes is not your amps problem, thats an issue somewhere else in your bass setup or technique.

As for the 4 PRO vs the CL I'd say they are pretty evenly matched - ie. one is not specifically better than the other, but may just be better FOR YOU than the other, depending on your needs... the difference is SS VS Tube

Have you played an all tube amp before? they have an awesome sound, but it's not for everybody, so I suggest trying one out before you make your final decision

Yeah, so far the 4 pro is sounding pretty good, I just changed the preamp tubes to some sovtechs and it's sounding pretty solid. Still I am unsure because I have never had the opportunity to use an all tube head. And due to me being the only dedicated bassist out of my acquaintances/friends I don't have anyone I can borrow from to find out.
