if you are opening the amp up please remember that there are lethal voltages inside. If you have no experience in working on tube amps this is not the unit to start learning on.

update 2:
opened up the top/front...pre tube on right when facing not glowing...replaced with the old one and no problemo....
I may just drop both old upper pres in again
question....just a bad tube or maybe something else to look into...I know it's a bag of worms question but just off the top of your heads!!

If the tube had a short (more than just an open heater) it could well have been the cause. You are lucky, usually the heater in a tube is the last thing that would fail
