SVT-II (non-pro) Problem...

I picked one up 2nd-hand from a friend who had just replaced all of the Tubes and pre-Tubes, and had everything checked-out.. It worked great through my 4ohm 4x10 Ampeg and then suddenly, about an hour and a half after playing and then turning it off for about 20-minutes, I turned the amp back on and when I switched the 'Stand-by' button back to ON, the red light indicator light remained solid red and all of the tubes did not light-up, but the fan turned on.

I turned it off for a few minutes and tried it again, and nothing..

HAS ANYONE ANY CLUE WHAT THIS MEANS...!?

THANKs-
David/Nyc

If the tubes did not light, then I would suspect a power supply problem, or a blown fuse, possibly from a problem with the AC mains. Does it have an external fuse? If so, check it. If you are able to replace it and it blows again, see a tech. If it's internal, see a tech. If you want to take a drive out to exit 68 on the LIE, take it to Vinny at Electro-Tech labs. He over-hauled my SVT II non-Pro, and installed an external fuse holder, which I have not needed to replace in the past 5 or 6 years (knock on wood). Mine sounds great!

I'd suggest having your friend return it to his amp tech with the receipt. (hopefully for a free warranty repair)

My SVT-II (non-pro) developed the same stuck on standby problem as yours, except mine only malfunctioned intermittently.
When I took it in to my amp tech, we could never get it to malfunction on his bench... My standby switch was definitely still good, so In an attempt to corect the problem he preformed a (fully reversible) bypass around the standby relay this model used. He made my standby circuit work similar to the 70's SVT design. (they didn't have or need this relay)

My origanal standby switch (and the red/green indicators) still function correctly and the amp hasn't malfunctioned again for nearly a year now.

Here's a thread with lots more SVT-II tech info included:
(there's also a free link to the SVT-II Schematics plus all the factory recommended updates in case your tech needs-em)
