Hi Guys, just looking for a bit of advice on my SVT-IV

First of all, to use the mono-bridged feature Ampeg supply you with a special cable with a speakON with +1/+2 wiring to a 1/4inch jack with +1/-1 wiring, just wondering if it would be possible to use a speakON to speakON with the +1/+1 to +1/-1 wiring? Secondly, with it having a tube pre-amp will it need a cab plugged in before switching it on like all tube amps?

Speakon cables can be easily changed be unscrewing them and using a Phillips screwdriver to move wires around. Easier than you think. The special mono-bridge cable can only be used for mono-bridging and the standard +1/-1 to +1/-1 wiring is for standard operation off the 4 PRO and other amp heads.

If I understand correctly, I can take a 'normal' 4 lug Speakon Cable (it should be +1/-1 to +1/-1), and change one end so that the -1 now goes to +2 and that will be correct for bridged mono? I am assuming I plug the modified end into the amp?

Double check the manual again, but I think you have it. If you do it wrong, the cable will not work. Nice fail-safe there. Make sure to mark the amp end with duct tape or something bright.

Seriously though, it's easy. And this is coming from a guy who tried soldering an EMG pre-amp and ended up melting a few contacts.....

I did some soldering once. You can barely see the scar now.
